In today's ultra competitive world many people are beginning to recognize the value of high quality professional networking as a way to enhance their marketability. Like it or not, each and every one of us has become subject to modern forces of change. Some of these forces, like globalization effectively compress available time and space and make it imperative that we learn to work through and with others to deliver our products and services on time, at acceptable levels of quality.
Yet at the same time the protections once afforded by our society in the form of career security, health care, and retirement are rapidly disintegrating. Faced with accellerating job obsolecence many of us have chosen to open up new possibilities for our future by going back to school and learning new processes, skills, and theory. Having achieved such a goal, notwitstanding the extraordinary obstacles that adult students are required to overcome, what's next?
I'm inviting you to consider that the kind of people that are capable of the kind of achievement that we demonstrated by our committed performance in the pursuit of our academic objectives is rare indeed. Each and every one of you have proven that you are capable, determined, focused winners, and what's more, that you are able to recognize opportunity when you see it, and know how to take calculated risks to turn challenges into positive gain.
Regardless of your major area of study, I'm willing to bet that you are the kind of person that others admire. I'm asking for your assistance, as leaders, to help to provide guidance to help build upon our acheivements and keep the momentum going. Specifically, we'll need:
1. Some of you to step forward and volunteer a few hours a month to help govern and organize our network, we probably should have some kind of governance with a mission and bylaws so that this effort does not become a "cult of personality"
2. Help identifying the various committees that we should create. There probably should also be some kind of an outreach committee so that we can continue to benefit from new ideas. Other committes that might be helpful: Social, Operations, and Finance.
3. Proposals for what kinds of standards that we should be willing to be held accountable to so that we can build a level of credibility that would eventually enable us to effect serious change in our organizations and our society.
4. We'll need folks that can contribute and edit content so that we have fresh articles and new ideas that will support our agenda for positive change and also ensure that the quality of our presentation supports our growing reputation.
How do you feel about these ideas? How does putting together such a network appeal to you? What skills and knowledge can you contribute?

Tif,
You're so right! Developing a sense of real community should be a key element in our purpose here.
Speaking of which, hopefully we will hear from you soon how the preparations are going for your show, what kinds of challenges you are facing and how you are overcoming them. Tell us more! Where is the venue? What is the name of your show, and most importantly how can we get tickets?
